From obstruction to accessible Awareness
SAE-1.5 examines whether changing patterns of identification, attachment and flexible response can be described by a bounded, time-dependent model inspired by Sanātana sources. Its metaphysics are philosophical premises, not empirical discoveries.
1. The point-in-time hypothesis
A(t) = C × [1 − Keffective(t)]
C = 1 · 0 ≤ K_effective ≤ 1 · 0 ≤ A ≤ 1 · B1/B2 influence proposed cultivated Purity, not instant A
This is a normalized theoretical description of accessible Awareness, not a fraction of the Divine measured in a person. C is held invariant as a philosophical premise. K is the proposed current obstruction; it is not a count of anger, sexual imagery, grief or ordinary distress.
A thought may arise and pass. The proposed obstruction concerns persistent identification or capture that constrains how one can choose and act. Avidya is treated as philosophical root; egoic fixation, attachment and aversion are interconnected manifestations, not independent penalties added indiscriminately.
2. What goes into the model?
C
Fixed philosophical reference
Universal Consciousness, set to 1 by convention, never empirically measured.
A(t)
Proposed instantaneous output
A model of accessibility, not literal percentage of Atman or a clinical awareness score.
K_base
Latent conditioning
Background Avidya/misidentification, distinct from current reactions.
L_i and T_i
Propensity and activation
Opportunity for a particular thought or situation to engage attachment or aversion.
P_cultivated
Long-run discernment and integrity
Historically inferred from considered choices and actions; not a moral ranking.
P_effective
Present alignment
Can fluctuate and may momentarily reverse without instantly erasing long-run cultivation.
S_acquired / S_effective
Developed / currently available capacity
Domain-specific skill or strength; the available portion depends on demands and context.
B1 / B2
Belief and sustained practice
B1: truth-seeking and openness to correction; B2: informed voluntary path commitment. Each candidate variable ranges 0–1.
D(t)
Practice
Sadhana or appropriate committed action, including Karma Yoga; zero practice is not zero character.
M(t)
Environmental condition
Maya interpreted as modulator of pressure and activation; not a measure of cosmic epochs.
Physical illness, mental health conditions, fatigue and disability must not be treated as impurity or reduced spiritual worth. They may affect practical availability, triggers and recovery. Similarly, happiness and professional success are possible outcomes for separate study, not definitions of A.
3. Current-event obstruction: one-trigger candidate
e = Li × Ti
q = Peffective × Seffective
R = e [1 − η max(q, 0)] + η max(−q, 0) e (1 − e)
Keffective = Kbase + (1 − Kbase) R
All quantities except signed alignment P and q are restricted to [0,1]; P and q are in [−1,1]. η is an unknown interaction coefficient in [0,1]. Positive alignment multiplied by usable capability attenuates active obstruction; negative alignment can reinforce it within the remaining headroom. If an event does not activate, the background K remains—it does not imply enlightenment.
Scope: This closure models one class of triggered obstruction. η, L, T and effective P/S have no validated human scales, and simultaneous overlapping triggers are unresolved. Different latent states can yield identical Keffective.
4. Belief (Śraddhā) and effective practice
Decision Option B: B1 is sincere truth seeking and openness to correction, while B2 is informed voluntary commitment to a path. Neither requires religion, nor does either guarantee good conduct. They are proposed influences on the cultivation of Purity through practice and considered choices, not multipliers of instantaneous A.
Conceptual developmental hypothesis: Pcultivated(t) = f(D(t), B1(t), B2(t), considered choices, context)
A(t) = C × [1 − Keffective(t)]
For this candidate, B1, B2 and D are between 0 and 1.
The former direct gate min(B1,B2) is superseded. Zero B1 or B2 no longer forces A=0. The function f above is conceptual only: the current simulator does not numerically evolve cultivated P from Belief. This avoids claiming that faith alone creates integrity; any causal B-to-P proposal must face independent measurement and secular comparators.
5. Transformation through time: background conditioning
The instantaneous equation does not itself describe development. A separate differential equation is needed. Here is the independently testable V05 candidate for the underlying state:
dKbase/dt = u (1 − Kbase) − v Kbase
u = α M + γ D max(−q, 0)
v = β D max(q, 0) + H(t)
H(t) ≥ 0 · independent effective recovery-support rate (hypothetical)
q = Peffective Seffective · α, β, γ ≥ 0
Two proposed clearing routes: Sustained constructive practice and effective external or independent recovery support H. H is a modeling rate, not the mere presence of a helper, medical treatment itself, or Divine Grace.
Interpretation: Environmental pressure M and misdirected application of capacity may reinforce conditioning, whereas aligned practice may help clear it. Belief is not directly included in the present u/v transformer; a hypothesized developmental B-to-P pathway awaits independent formulation and testing. Practice D can include ordinary dedicated action and need not be religious ritual. All rates remain unvalidated.
Recovery is conditional: K decreases when v K exceeds u (1−K); simply adding support does not guarantee recovery when reinforcement is strong. Setting H=0 exactly recovers the previous transformer.
With u and v constant over an interval Δt, let r=u+v. If r>0, the exact update is Knext=u/r+(Know−u/r) exp(−rΔt). If r=0, K does not change during that interval. This keeps Kbase between 0 and 1 without artificial clipping. Coefficients and the interpretation remain preliminary.
Acquired capability S has its own training, experience and loss process. Cultivated integrity P changes through repeated considered actions, practice and correction; rare grave choices may be represented by event-dependent changes. B1 and B2 remain developmental dependencies, not the old automatic signed multiplier on A. Rebirth/saṁskāra is treated as a separate metaphysical boundary condition, not as a testable statistical term.
6. What the examples illustrate
A master singer can retain musical mastery while deciding to undermine a peer. High acquired capacity does not prove ethically aligned use. Arjuna's temporary confusion and willingness to seek guidance are not evidence that his moral character collapsed. Karna's competing loyalties and Dhritarashtra's partiality illustrate differences among skill, duty, attachment and discernment.
These narrative cases are thought experiments, not measured data. They help challenge the equations; they cannot establish numerical P, S, K or A for the people described.
7. Source traditions and interpretation
- Bhagavad Gita 2.62–63Attachment and fixation provide a narrative hypothesis about impaired discernment.
- Bhagavad Gita 3.19Action without attachment motivates the Karma Yoga pathway.
- Bhagavad Gita 3.30Action without egoic possessiveness motivates a possible transformation.
- Bhagavad Gita 4.39Śraddhā, discernment and commitment; inspires a candidate practice dependency, not a belief score that causes consciousness.
- Bhagavad Gita 6.35Steadiness through repeated practice and nonattachment.
- Bhagavad Gita 6.26The wandering mind can be returned repeatedly; a thought is not automatically a blocker.
- Bhagavad Gita 18.26Steadfastness and action are distinguished from egoic attachment.
- Bhagavad Gita 18.30Discernment about appropriate and inappropriate action.
- Yoga Sutra 2.3–2.6Avidya as root/field of related afflictions; interpretive differences across schools remain.
Cross-tradition equivalence is explicitly not asserted: Pātañjala puruṣa/prakṛti and Advaita Ātman/Brahman are distinct theoretical settings. These references motivate hypotheses; they do not supply physiological coefficients or validate empirical claims.
8. Evidence, negative findings and safeguards
SAE-1.4 archive: corrected constructed-data temporal R² scores included purity-only 0.158, persistence 0.153, calibrated composite 0.259, fitted components 0.308, and uncalibrated fixed equation −3.283. Earlier 0.896 was invalid as prospective evidence due to generator-only oracle leakage. These were not human results.
SAE-1.5: T01–T05 are synthetic structural and parameter-recoverability exercises. The latest background transformer passed 100,000 seeded boundedness tests in a constructed world. That is not proof of the chosen causal rates; several different models may reproduce identical outcomes. The seven-day diary is independent and is not used to calibrate this theoretical equation.
Necessary next checks include cross-tradition interpretations and a falsifiable Belief-to-cultivated-P pathway, plus independent definitions of P and K without using the predicted outcome, context and physical/mental conditions, multi-trigger aggregation, measurement uncertainty, replication of historical claims, competing simple psychological baselines, outside scholarly critique and ethically reviewed voluntary human research.
9. See the model behave
Inspect the same equation at a moment and across hypothetical time. Introduce success, criticism, practice, environmental pressure, capacity constraints or a decision-related change. These are mathematical counterfactuals, not human scores or future predictions.
