SAE-1.5 · Independent critique requested

What needs correction in the revised model?

The new theoretical equation separates momentary modeled obstruction from its development over time. It keeps B1 as truth seeking and openness to correction, and B2 as informed voluntary commitment—not religious conformity. Option B replaces the former direct Belief factor with A=C×(1−K_effective). B1 and B2 remain potential influences on cultivated P through Sādhana and meaningful choices, not an established causal relationship.

  • Can B1/B2 independently predict later cultivated Purity, or do they conflate path commitment with discernment and devotional practice across different schools?
  • The former zero-B gate forced A=0, but Option B removes that mathematical requirement. How could a proposed B-to-P influence be independently measured without double counting practice or importing religious belief as a moral score?
  • Can the latent Avidyā/entanglement variables be identified independently of the Awareness mapping, without circular measurement?
  • What contrary observations would refute the P × S directional interaction or the environment-dependent K transformer?
  • How should Yoga, Advaita, Bhakti and Karma Yoga interpretations be distinguished without claiming doctrinal equivalence?

Questions for independent scholarly review

Can the many paths of Sanātana Dharma reveal a common architecture?

My research asks whether Jñāna, Bhakti, Karma Yoga, Yoga, mantra and tantric pathways engage distinguishable conditions of the practitioner; whether their intended outcomes share any structure; and whether such relationships can be represented mathematically without reducing consciousness or liberation to a score.

The Sanātana Awareness Equation is one candidate interpretation that emerged from this inquiry—not a mathematical proof of Sanātana Dharma. I welcome independent scrutiny of the philosophical premise before treating any application as justified.

I offer this inquiry to scholars, practitioners, researchers, educators and thoughtful critics across traditions. I am a systems architect and a devotee, not a trained Sanskritist or authority on these paths. MeSanatan makes my questions and working assumptions available for scrutiny. I seek correction, not endorsement: where have I confused consciousness with mind, traditional teachings with my own inference, or a useful analogy with a claim about reality?

Any one correction would help. If the model is confused at its root, I would rather retire it than defend it.

The background comes before the equation

How this inquiry developed

The work did not begin with mathematics. It began with the experience that achievement does not necessarily quiet inner suffering, with devotion to Ma, and with the distinction between the changing mind and the unchanging witness. As an engineer, I tried to understand why the Sanātana traditions describe different pathways and whether some of their descriptions of the practitioner's changing conditions could be compared without reducing their spiritual purposes.

That inquiry led through Advaita, bhakti, karma-yoga, Pātañjala Yoga, Śākta and Śaiva traditions, mantra and the epics. It also led to uncomfortable questions: whether the urge to measure one's progress can become another obstruction, whether surrender can be modeled without instrumentalizing devotion, and whether similar outcomes can arise from very different paths.

The reasoning and its revisions

The original research, including its corrected analogies, tradition comparisons, Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata examples, mathematical formulation and synthetic experiments, is organized as a guided account. The equation is introduced near the end, after the questions that produced it.

What I have explored so far

These are my interpretations and experiments, not conclusions attributed to any scholar, lineage or tradition. Textual provenance is still being checked, and the numerical work has no human validation.

Before the questions—three things I am keeping separate

01

Advaita teaching

My present understanding—not a claim of authority—is that consciousness or Ātman is the unchanging witness and is not an object or quantity. understand “Consciousness + Object = Experience” as a pedagogical analogy sometimes used in contemporary Advaita explanations, not a numerical or predictive law. This interpretation requires correction and must not be attributed to all Vedānta schools.

02

MeSanatan hypothesis

The SAE / Awareness Equation is my proposed directional model of reported conditions in mind and life: clarity, steadiness, obstruction, orientation, trust, and usable capacity. It is not derived from a traditional teaching formula and does not claim to measure Ātman, Brahman, sākṣī, grace, or liberation.

03

Evidence status

Only synthetic data have been used. The corrected results are mixed and include failures; the fixed, uncalibrated equation performs poorly. There is no human validation. Philosophical, textual and methodological criticism are all welcome.

One optional source example—not a basis for SAE—is this contemporary Advaita teaching illustration on consciousness, object, and experience. This talk is not a source for SAE and does not imply endorsement by its speaker.

The heart of the request

Five open questions

  1. 1

What, if anything, can be modeled?

In Advaita, awareness itself does not increase or decrease. If I restrict the model to self-reports and conditions of the antaḥkaraṇa— clarity, regulation, attention, obstruction, and steadiness—may I say it models conditions in which recognition of the witness seems more or less available? Or does even “access to the witness” wrongly make the witness seem distant, variable, or caused? Which vocabulary would keep the distinction clean?

  2. 2

Do the pathways share a structure or even the same outcome?

Do Jñāna, Bhakti, Karma Yoga, Pātañjala Yoga, mantra and tantric traditions describe comparable intermediate transformations, or fundamentally different aims? Which distinctions between discipline, mental preparation, knowledge, devotion and liberation make a common variable model illuminating—or impossible? Which primary texts and alternative interpretations must be considered before making such a claim?

  3. 3

Where does the argument from the witness legitimately end?

Discriminating seer from seen shows that body, sensation, thought, emotion, and the “I”-thought are known. What additional warrant establishes that awareness is one, nondual, and ontologically fundamental? For a public project, should those latter claims be marked as śruti-grounded teaching and devotional conviction rather than conclusions established by phenomenology alone?

  4. 4

    Does parameterizing surrender reduce bhakti?

SAE-1.5 proposes a direct, nonnegative Belief-coherence factor beside invariant C in its modeled accessibility index. Does that instrumentalize bhakti, confuse a mind's preparation with spiritual realization, or wrongly imply zero accessibility without path commitment? How should bhakti, citta-śuddhi, jñāna, and anugraha be related without converting devotion or grace into measurable control variables? Would a positive-floor or no-B alternative be more defensible?

  5. 5

What may Advaita responsibly say about AI?

If consciousness is not produced by biological matter, is there an Advaitic reason to categorically rule out a non-biological system as an upādhi or reflecting medium for cidābhāsa? How should we separate intelligence, self-modeling, phenomenal experience, and consciousness here? Is the honest position that this remains open, or is the question itself confused?

What I will do with correction

I will distinguish three labels on every relevant page: traditional teaching, MeSanatan interpretation, and empirical status. If a category is wrong, I will correct it publicly. If SAE cannot be stated without quantifying consciousness, flattening bhakti, or borrowing authority from Advaita, I will retire or rename it. I will not describe silence, correspondence, or any response as endorsement, and I will quote nothing without permission.

Thank you to anyone willing to offer a correction. No reply is assumed or expected.

With pranam,
Som Chakraborty
